This resource has been developed to provide information about jobs and progression within research careers in STEM, focusing especially on those found in universities or related to them.

The Royal Society commissioned the content for this resource from the Careers Research & Advisory Centre in 2022, following a feasibility study in 2021.

Data given about numbers of academic staff is drawn from CRAC’s analysis of HESA staff record data for 2019.

Information about numbers of advertised job opportunities was drawn from Jobs.ac.uk.

Information specifically about technician careers is from the Talent Commission’s 2021 report.
